Community cookbook preservation pilot
We are inviting a small first group of Midwest churches, libraries, historical societies, civic groups, schools, and family communities to help build a careful model for community-cookbook preservation.
Tell us about a cookbookWhy this pilot exists
Its recipes may preserve local fundraisers, farm kitchens, migration stories, neighborhood businesses, memorials, and the names of cooks whose work rarely entered a formal archive. We want to keep that context attached to the food.
This pilot tests a responsible path from source material to secure intake, assisted transcription, human verification, provenance, and—only when permission is explicit—a useful public collection.
A careful first cohort
Applications are reviewed individually. A strong fit has a documented Midwest connection, a responsible rights contact, meaningful community context, and people willing to verify the record.

The administrators clarify permissions, privacy, handling, expected effort, and whether the pilot is the right fit before requesting source files.
Accepted partners receive a private workflow for organized scans or photographs. Original books are never mailed without written handling instructions.
Transcriptions, contributor names, provenance, and cooking details remain under human review. Public access requires a separate publication agreement.
