Terms of service

Fair use of the recipe box.

These terms govern accounts, submissions, and use of Our Midwest Recipe Box. Creating an account or using the service means you agree to them.

Effective August 8, 2026

Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 13 and able to agree to these terms. Provide accurate account information, protect your sign-in credentials, and promptly report suspected unauthorized access. You are responsible for activity performed through your account.

Acceptable use

Do not misuse the service, interfere with its operation, bypass access controls, scrape it in a way that burdens the service, upload malware, impersonate another person, expose private information, harass others, or submit material you do not have the right to share.

Your ownership and our limited license

You retain ownership of material you submit. You grant Our Midwest Recipe Box a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, copy, format, transcribe, edit for clarity and safety, display, distribute, and preserve that material as needed to operate and promote the archive. This license permits use of service providers acting for the archive. You represent that you created the material or have permission to grant these rights.

Editorial decisions and removal

Submission does not guarantee publication. Editors may request changes, decline, annotate, correct, archive, or remove material based on relevance, provenance, rights, quality, or safety. Paid status never changes the editorial standard. Contact us to request removal or attribution correction; requests are reviewed against preservation, licensing, safety, and legal obligations.

Community cookbook pilot

A partnership application is a request for evaluation, not a promise of acceptance, free digitization, publication, or a completion date. Do not mail an original cookbook or send private source files until an administrator supplies written handling instructions. Collection scope, rights, privacy, responsibilities, timing, and any costs must be confirmed separately before preservation work begins. Public publication requires documented authority and a separate publication agreement.

Memberships

Public recipe reading remains free. When paid enrollment is available, the checkout page states the price, billing interval, and selected Stripe or PayPal payment provider before purchase. Subscriptions renew until canceled through the applicable provider. Cancellation stops future renewal and access continues through the paid-through date. Failed payments may receive one stated seven-day grace period. Checkout-specific terms and applicable law control refunds.

Cooking and health responsibility

Recipes and editorial notes are general information, not medical, dietary, or professional advice. Historical cards may contain transcription errors or outdated methods. Cooks are responsible for checking ingredients, allergens, sanitation, safe temperatures, preservation guidance, and suitability for their circumstances.

Service availability and disclaimers

The service is provided on an “as available” basis. We work to preserve content and maintain access but do not promise uninterrupted operation, error-free transcriptions, or permanent availability of every feature or submission. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or responsibilities that cannot legally be excluded.

Suspension, termination, and changes

We may restrict or close accounts that violate these terms or threaten the service or its users. You may delete a non-administrator account from Account Security. We may update these terms as the service changes and will post the effective date; continued use after an update constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.

Questions and disputes

Please contact the owners first so concerns can be addressed informally. These terms do not prevent either party from using rights or remedies available under applicable law.
