Make the recipe
- Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water.
- Mix flour, salt, and sugar; cut in the lard with knives or a pastry blender.
- Beat the egg yolks and milk together; add with they east mixture to the dry ingredients. Mix well.
- Chill the dough several hours or overnight.
- Roll each piece into thin strips, no more than 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread beaten egg whites down the center, then add the filling.
- Fold one side over the filling, then the other. Let rise 2 hours.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes, until golden.
